Sally "Wonderwoman": active lifestyle profile
AgeVenture News Service

68 year old Sally (“Wonderwoman”) has become very involved in the Living Desert Wildlife and Botanical Park. After a year’s training, Sally became a lecturer and tour guide, and trained for 6 month’s to learn how to handle wild animals.

In preparation for the Living Desert’s opening of a new African Village attraction, Sally spent 5 weeks in Kenya studying the African animals in their natural environment.

Her love for nature brought her to the Coachella Valley Hiking Club where she became the leader of two hikes a week for 1 ½ years (until she needed hip replacement surgery).

After surgery, Sally recuperated in Costa Rica by studying wild birds and animals in the rainforest.

Just 2 years after hip surgery, Sally won the Senior Health and Fitness Day’s swimming event with the best time (nationwide!) two years in a row.

In 1998 she formed a team to compete in the triathlon and her team won a medal. This past year, Sally competed in the triathlon as an individual and won with the fastest score in all three events: walking, biking and swimming.

Sally is currently employed part-time at the fitness center with certifications for CRP and AED. When this active senior isn't volunteering or serving as head usher for the annual Newsweek and Evert Cup Tennis Tournaments, she enjoys ceramics, computer, camping out, rebuilding hiking trails and biking a couple hundred miles per week.

It's certainly no surprise that Sally's motto for active living is, “Don’t say no to anything until you’ve tried it!”
