American cities represent a diverse sampling of ethnic neighborhoods and cultural influences, history and contemporary economics, politics and human habitats. As a result, Elderhostel, the non-profit educational organization for active adults age 55-plus, is offering an opportunity for city lovers to immerse themselves in the history, arts, architecture, music, cuisine, and heritage of a variety of great American cities. This initiative is called the "Signature City" program.
The model for the first Signature City program was developed by Barbara McCurdy, Elderhostel coordinator. For the past six years, McCurdy has sponsored a New Orleans cultural extravaganza for Elderhostel. "It's an experience rich in history, architecture, music, and food."
Elderhostel is sponsoring Signature City programs in ten states around the U.S. this winter. Featured cities include Seattle, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Reno, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Key West, Miami, Fort Myers, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Montgomery. For information about these programs, readers may write to: Elderhostel, Dept 26, PO Box 1959, Wakefield, MA 01880-5959.
