When it comes to outdoor adventure, it's one thing for clothes to look great, another for them to feel great. So why not let the people who create the clothes see how they work in the great outdoors? That's what these women from the new DKNY Active Line did when they set out for a white water adventure recently.
The crew included DKNY staff from marketing, design, fashion, and public relations. Just how did a group of New York City gals fare in the great outdoors? Read on and find out. Far from taking it easy, the DKNY Active Team chose to be the first all-women crew to go down the Klinaklani River, one of British Columbia's wildest waterways. Along the way, the NYC women learned much about themselves, the great outdoors, and the balance between fashion and function. The eight-day, 100-mile expedition was hosted by Rivers & Oceans, British Columbia's outdoor adventure specialists. It was the first time that an all women crew ran the river and only the third time anyone ran the river at all. The group rafted through diverse terrain, rapid water, and icy temperatures. They pitched their own tents, rowed their own weight and experienced the power of being one with nature. Throughout the trip, the DKNY staff had long discussions about the functionality of their Active Line clothing. The Active Line included parka and pant, rainsuit for when it pours, neoprene vest to keep dry, packable zip-off nylon pants for when the cool mornings became hot afternoons. In addition, the group wore quick-dry swimsuits, polarfleece vests for comfort, and capeline long underwear for day and night. The Active Wear Line wore rather well. By the way, the entire line is available in stores Spring 99. DKNY publicist, Sherrie Krantz captured the adventure like this. "It was like being zapped into a national geographic story. The greenest greens, the bluest blues. The warmest afternoons and the most freezing evenings ever. DKNY Active Wardrobe stood the test, probably better than I did."
