Peter Baylies Creates Newsletter for Mr. Moms
|
After being laid off as a software engineer at a major computer company, Peter joined the ranks of the two million dads across the nation who stay home with their children. Noticing the lack of resources for this growing group, Peter sat down at his kitchen table during his son's 3 hour nap and created the prototype for what would soon become a quarterly newsletter called "At-Home Dad". After a year of research, he went to press and mailed the first newsletter issue to six subscribers during the Spring of 1994. The newsletter soon grew to 1,000 readers nationwide. "At Home Dad" became one of the first resources for fathers who care for their children at home. Peter researched his readers and identified isolation as a major problem for stay-at-home dads. Many wished they could keep in touch by e-mail or phone in order to share the experiences of their home-based businesses. Others wanted to get together with other families for social outings and playgroups for the kids. As a result, the "At-Home Dad Network" was created to help organize playgroups which now include local chapters in 35 states. Congratulations, Peter !
